Freeview Set Top box

There are over 200 Freeview set top boxes on the market, ranging from £20 to over £150. Like with any purchase, it is important to find the right product within your set budget. To help you make the right choose, I have categorised below into various budgets, a selection of popular set top boxes, most of which can easily be bought from your common high street retailer or online (links provided to recommended sellers)

Common features that all Freeview set top boxes should contain are

  • Able to receive digital TV and radio
  • Teletext function
  • SCART socket
  • Support subtitles

  • Cost - Boxes start from around £30
  • Connectivity - All boxes have one SCART socket, many have two. If your TV doesn't have a SCART socket, look for a box with a modulator (see below)
  • Features - Such as built-in DVD player, a hard-disk recorder (called a PVR), or Internet/email support

Depending on your personal requirements, some Freeview boxes also contain an in-built DVD recorder or hard disk recorder (highly recommended if your budget allows) Also bear in mind that you many need to check your existing Freeview aerial connection to ensure you get the optimal digital reception.

Please check out my Freeview box page for further information on buying a set top box. A great site I came across recently containing the best prices for around on set top boxes is comparestoreprices.

Alternatively check out the specifications on this LCD Freeview TV.  As an owner of one, I can honestly say, it is a safe buy for the price
